Behaviour

Brush-tailed porcupines spend their days hidden in caves, crevices or fallen trees. Although mainly terrestrial they are also good at climbing and swimming.

If porcupines are continually threatened they will turn their rear towards an intruder and run sideways or backwards into them.  Although the embedded quills are not poisonous they often cause septic wounds which can prove fatal for their natural predators, eg lions and leopards
